Engage your users through Browser Push Notifications: A hack in user engagement

With Chrome announcing its support for Push Notifications with the Chrome version 42 in April 2015, the push notification became available on both Safari and Chrome browsers. Chrome is the dominant browser among users with over 52% market share, followed by IE at 19%, Firefox at 18%, and  Safari close to 7% market share. [Reference]. PushEngage supports push notification on the Chrome Browser, Firefox Browser, Safari Browser.

In November 2015 Firefox also announced a beta release with their developer version of the browser, and the January 2016 release will likely have full support for the notification. This will offer a market reach of 75%+, and the push notifications reach becomes meaningful.

How Engaging Users Through Push Improves Engagement

We operate consumer startups and always willing to experiment and try new customer acquisition and engagement methods.  We built an in-house tool to do push notifications for our sites, and soon found out that

  • Click Through Rates for Push Notifications was 5 to10x higher than Email, and ranged between 10 to 40%
  • Our ROI from such customer engagement was 3 to 5x higher as compared to Email.

This was a big hack for us to drive better revenue for our startups

When we built our first in-house version of the product we found that there were several hurdles in implementing like –

  • Lack of HTTPS domain
  • This required a robust set of campaign tools to
    1. Schedule the messages
    2. Segment the users to send personalized messages.
    3. Do A/B testing on messages
    4. Improve the CTR through custom images

This became the genesis of PushEngage, and we decided to make our software available to all.  We hope you will give PushEngage a spin and share with us your feedback.

Some of the key features for our Private Beta launch are

  • Schedule Your Messages: Sending the message at the time of the maximum open rate can increase your ROI
  • HTTPS support: Implement Chrome Push Notifications on your website without having an HTTPS server.
  • API support: Integrate with your other tools and use our API to send notifications
  • Custom Images: Ability to change the image for each of the notification, to get higher CTR.

PushEngage supports push notifications on Microsoft Edge as well. Once you learn web push notifications and its benefits, you can easily increase your engagement rate. You can check out the case studies of push notification and see for yourself.
